On Tuesday, in a conversation with his Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu during the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict, Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that India “condemns terrorism in all its forms”.
Netanyahu gave Narendra Modi an “update on the ongoing situation” during their phone call, according to a post PM Modi made on X (formerly Twitter). “People of India stand firmly with Israel in this difficult hour. India strongly and unequivocally condemns terrorism in all its forms and manifestations,” said the post.
Earlier, Prime Minister Modi expressed his “deep shock” at hearing about “terrorist attacks” in Israel. India, he continued, “stands in solidarity with Israel at this difficult hour.”
In response to Modi’s tweet, Israel’s Foreign Ministry tweeted “Thank you” on X.
As a result of Hamas’ unprecedented and unexpected attack on Israel, more than 1,600 people have died in the conflict that started on October 7. In Israel, there have been at least 900 fatalities and 2,600 people were injured. In the meantime, the Gaza Health Ministry reported that Israeli airstrikes have resulted in 704 fatalities, including 143 children and 105 women, and over 4,000 injuries.
Israel claimed to have “restored full control” over the border and gained effective control of the southern region.
Netanyahu claimed earlier in the day that Israel did not start the war. “We were against this war. Although his nation “didn’t start this war but will finish it,” he said, “it was forced upon us in the most brutal and savage way.”
