A petition was filed in the Supreme Court regarding NOTA, on which the Supreme Court has issued a notice to the Election Commission and sought its reply. The petition demands re-polling in those areas where maximum votes were cast on NOTA.
According to the correspondent, this petition was filed by Shivkheda. His petition demands re-polling in those areas where NOTA has the highest number of votes. Senior lawyer Gopal Shankar Narayan argued that in Surat we saw that since there was no other candidate, everyone had to go to only one candidate.
Accepting this petition, CJI DY Chandrachud in the Supreme Court said that we will issue a notice. It is also about the electoral process. Now it remains to be seen what the Election Commission says on this.
Today i.e. on Friday, some more important matters were also heard. Demands like holding elections through ballot paper in the country did not go to the Supreme Court, all the petitions related to these matters were rejected. Justice Sanjeev Khanna and Justice Dipankar Dutta said that we have discussed the protocol, technical aspects in detail. After this we have given a unanimous decision.
EVM-VVPAT slip does not even match
During the hearing, it was clearly stated in the Supreme Court that elections in the country will be held only through Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) and not through ballot paper. Apart from this, there will not be 100% cross-checking of VVPAT slips from EVMs. Two instructions were also received from the Supreme Court, the first of which is that after the completion of the symbol loading process, the symbol loading unit should be sealed. Sealed symbol loading units should be stored for 45 days. And the second instruction is that after the announcement of election results, if any candidate coming second or third has any objection, then he should complain within 7 days. A team of engineers will check the memory of the microcontroller inside the EVM. After this complaint, the cost of the verification process will be borne by the candidate himself. If the investigation reveals that the EVM has been tampered with, then the expenditure incurred by the candidate will be re-funded.
