Nitish Kumar, the chief minister of Bihar, convened an all-party meeting on Tuesday to present the findings of the caste census report and debate the next actions that should be followed.
All nine of the state’s political parties were urged to participate by Kumar. He asserted that the government will offer comprehensive details on the calculations used to arrive at the conclusions and the economic circumstances of the respondents.
“After doing everything, the result came out. We have taken the financial condition of every family. Tomorrow, in the all-party meeting, we will keep everything in front of everyone. The government will take all the necessary steps after taking everyone’s suggestions in the meeting,” the Bihar Chief Minister told reporters as quoted by news agency ANI.
The Bihar government released the findings of its caste-based census on Monday. The Other Backward Classes (OBCs) make up 63% of the state’s population, according to the census.
As per the census, also known as the Bihar Jaati Adharit Ganana, scheduled castes make up more than 19% of the 13 million people, while scheduled tribes make up 1.68 percent.
15.52 percent of the people of the state are members of the higher castes, or “savarnas”.
