According to Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) chairman Rakesh Tikait, the farmers who have blocked the national highway in Pipli, Haryana’s Kurukshetra, for more than 24 hours will now stop their protest and reopen the blocked highways. After the state administration agreed to the farmers’ demand to increase sunflower seed procurement prices, the farmers in Kurukshetra halted their protest.
What Farmer Leader Said?
Rakesh Tikait said, “We are ending our protest. The blocked roads will be opened today. We were protesting so that our crops are purchased at MSP. We will keep fighting for MSP across the country. Our leaders will also be released soon. Cases filed against our leaders will be taken back.” The charges brought against the farmer leaders will be dismissed. BKU chief Gurnam Singh Chaduni will also be released. He was in Judicial Custody.
Farmers protested near National Highway-44 near Pipli.
In order to get a minimum support price (MSP) for the sunflower crop and the release of nine farmer union officials who were detained during a demonstration at Shahabad last week, hundreds of farmers have blocked National Highway-44 near Pipli.
What did the farmer leader say earlier?
Rakesh Tikait had earlier stated that until the government declares MSP for the sunflower seeds, farmers will continue to block the national highway in Kurukshetra. He claimed that the local government and administration were damaging the reputation of farmer unions. Kurukshetra Superintendent of Police S. S. Bhoria told PTI that the district government was hoping for a solution and was attempting to convince the farmers to lift the blockade.

The BKU (Charuni)-organized demonstration was held at a grain market in Pipli near NH-44. The farmers then blocked the highway. The demonstration included farmers from Haryana, Punjab, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan.
