Kerala Extends Support: Funding Education For Muslim Child Slapped In UP School

Kerala’s Education Minister, V Sivankutty, has announced that the government is prepared to financially support the education of the young Muslim child who endured an unfortunate incident in a school in Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh. The distressing event gained nationwide attention after a video capturing the incident circulated on social media platforms.

Speaking from Thiruvananthapuram on Monday, Minister Sivankutty expressed his state’s willingness to assist the child. “Kerala is fully prepared to sponsor the education of the child who faced mistreatment from his peers at the Muzaffarnagar school. Our state stands firmly committed to the principles of secularism,” he affirmed during his media interaction.

Sivankutty emphasized that Kerala’s administration is ready to provide comprehensive support to the child, contingent upon the agreement of the child’s parents. “We have learned that the school in Muzaffarnagar might close as a result of this incident. Given this circumstance, the child might not be able to continue his education there. Kerala is ready and willing to facilitate the child’s education within our state. The child’s parents can reflect upon this opportunity. Our education department is dedicated to embracing the child and offering him education here,” he explained.

He also underscored Kerala’s ongoing efforts in extending educational aid to a child affected by the Manipur conflict. “We have taken a child from a region in Manipur impacted by unrest and have integrated her into one of our government schools. We have also introduced additional textbooks, incorporating sections that were removed by the NCERT. Kerala is a state that prioritizes progressive thinking and actions,” he added.

Minister Sivankutty had previously addressed a letter to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, urging him to take decisive measures against the teacher responsible for the student’s mistreatment.

The incident transpired at Neha Public School in Muzaffarnagar, where the student faced harassment orchestrated by his classmates under the direction of a teacher displaying communal bias. The local authorities subsequently filed a case against the teacher, Tripta Tyagi, on Saturday. The student, who was visibly affected by the incident, received a medical evaluation in Meerut on Sunday, as he was reportedly experiencing disturbance and difficulty sleeping. Neha Public School, where the incident unfolded, has been ordered to remain closed until proper action is taken against the school’s administration.
