Jammu-Kashmir Force Faces Shortage Of Manpower, Over 4,000 Constable Positions Vacant

The Jammu and Kashmir police are suffering from a severe manpower shortage as a result of the slow hiring of frontline officers and constables.

Since there hasn’t been any hiring over the past four years, Dilbag Singh, the Director General of J&K police, has expressed concern about the impact of a staffing shortage.

Mr Singh claims that there are over 4,000 positions vacant for police constables and J&K Services Selection Board (JKSSB), the organisation in charge of holding recruitment exams has failed to conduct exams.

“We have more than 4,000 vacancies. The deficiency in ranks is being felt across the police department,” said Mr Singh.

The J&K police chief has never publicly expressed his outrage over the Union Territory administration’s failure to adequately recruit police officers.

However this time Mr Singh said, “Earlier, police would make recruitments through its own process. A new experiment was done and the process was handed over to some other department. Since then, no recruitment in police is taking place.”

J&K police, one of the nation’s largest police forces with an 83,000-strong force, is outfitted with cutting-edge equipment and weapons to combat terrorism supported by Pakistan and uphold law and order in the delicate border region.
