The heart-wrenching death case of a 17-year-old student from Jadavpur University sent shockwaves across the nation, further investigation into the matter revealed he was undressed and then publicly paraded in the campus hostel, said police.
Following the tragic demise of the child on August 9 after falling from the second floor the main hostel building his parents came forward and said that their child had been a victim of ragging and sexual harassment. Police has detained 13 people till now in relation with the case.
According to the police sources, “We have questioned boarders and hostel staff members regarding the matter.” Considering the seriousness of the crime Authorities are pondering to use Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
The probe in the case reveals that the student was stripped naked and then paraded in the hostel premises as a ritual for nearly an hour. He was continuously bullied, in order to avoid this he ran from room to room.
The brutal incident raises huge questions on prevailing rules and regulations of esteemed institutions in effectively stopping deeply ingrained crimes like ragging within college campuses. The Governor of the state holds the position of Chancellor announced an emergency meeting at Raj Bhawan to discuss the course of the investigation.
