Income Tax department officials on Wednesday carried out raid in the residence of key associates of Congress’s Bengaluru Rural candidate DK Suresh.
IT officials arrived in two cars at around 6 am and launched search operations at properties belonging to Congress block president Sridhar and former corporator Gangadhar, alongside their relative’s residence in Konnakunte. The area falls in the Bengaluru Rural constituency.
The searches extended to the bungalow owned by former corporator Gangadhar, with officials examining documents.
The Income Tax officials continued the searches for over eight hours.
Meanwhile, Congress workers staged protests outside Gangadhar’s residence, calling IT raids “a BJP conspiracy”.
The party condemned the IT raids on Congress leader’s associates. The raids were conducted just two days before south Karnataka votes in the Lok Sabha polls.
DK Suresh, brother of Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka DK Shivakumar, is the sitting MP from Bengaluru Rural and has been fielded by the party to contest the seat again.
DK Suresh is pitted against BJP’s Dr CN Manjunath. Bengaluru Rural constituency will go to polls during the second phase on April 26.
