The police discovered an eatery in Vadodara, Gujarat, selling samosas made of beef, and there owners were arrested on Monday.
In response to a tip off, the Vadodara police raided the Hussaini Samosa Centre in Panigate and confiscated 113 kg of meat. After that, it was tested in a forensic lab, which verified that it was cow meat.
Together with their four employees, Yusuf and Naeem Sheikh, the owners of the shop have been taken into custody by the police.
The owners admitted during interrogation that they had received beef from a man named Imran Qureshi. They provided information, and the police arrested Qureshi.
“We got information that some people were selling samosas from a house using cow meat,” stated Panna Momaya, the deputy commissioner of police in Vadodara. During our raids, we confiscated 152 kg of samosa stuff, 113 kg of meat, and 61 kg of samosas.”
According to Momaya, the shop’s owners lacked a license from either the food safety department or the municipal corporation. “They were selling these samosas across the city without mentioning to their customers,” according to the DCP.
In 2017, the Gujarat Animal Preservation Act was modified by the state government. The new act stipulates that killing cows will result in a life sentence and a fine of Rs 1–5 lakh.
