Girl Dies After Eating Shawarma, Tamil Nadu Shops Under Inspection, 70 Kg Chicken Seized

On Monday, the police reported that 13 other medical students who got ill after consuming non-vegetarian food from the same restaurant are currently under treatment.

After a 14-year-old girl passed away on Monday from food poisoning after consuming a chicken shawarma, a team of food safety officers conducted raids at 90 shawarma restaurants on Tuesday in Tamil Nadu’s Madurai district.

The girl and her family ate chicken shawarma as her father brought home many non-vegetarian dishes from a restaurant. Ma Subramaniam, the state’s minister of health and family welfare, acted swiftly in response to the incident and demanded that all hotels and shawarma joints be inspected.

Food safety officers conducted raids at nearly 90 shawarma joints in Madurai district on Tuesday. Following their investigations, two of these businesses were sealed, and as part of the operation, 70 kilograms of chicken were seized.

The Madurai district’s food safety officer, Jayarama Pandian, stated, “We inspected 90 shops and seized 70 kg of chicken. Two shops have been sealed. On Monday, the police reported that 13 other medical students who got ill after consuming non-vegetarian food from the same restaurant are currently under treatment.
