The garba dance form was recently included in the Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) of Humanity, maintained by the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization.
The intangible heritage elements that serve to highlight the significance of this legacy and its diversity are what comprise Unesco’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendera Patel in a post he shared on X described the Garba’s listing as a “proud moment for Gujarat and India”.
Taking to X Patel said, “Garba’s inclusion in the Unesco Intangible Cultural Heritage list is truly a proud moment for Gujarat and India. It is an honour given by the world to the ancient culture of India.”
BJP chief G Kishan Reddy also tweeted on the achievement and said, “Tireless efforts of this government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to showcase our rich culture, traditions and heritage to the world”.
