Father Of Gang Rape Victims Commits Suicide, Was Pressured To Withdraw Complaint

In the Hamirpur district of Uttar Pradesh, father of a gang rape victim committed suicide on Wednesday, according to police.

The 45-year-old man committed suicide a few days after his niece and daughter, who were allegedly gang-raped at a brick factory in the Ghatampur neighborhood of Kanpur, also ended their lives.

The girls’ relatives said were gang-raped after being forced to bring alcohol. The Kanpur Police detained all three of the suspects in accordance with different Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections.

The father was allegedly under pressure to withdraw the case, according to the family members. About two kilometers from his home, his body was discovered late on Wednesday, hanging from a tree.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Deeksha Sharma of Hamirpur confirmed the suicide in a statement to the media, adding that the reason behind the extreme step was still unknown.

“…After receiving a complaint from the family members, action will be taken in the case in accordance with the law,” SP Sharma said in a pre-recorded video.
