Farmers’ Protest Continues At Shambhu Railway Station; Trains Cancelled

On Thursday, farmers protesting the arrest of three farmers by the Haryana Police remained seated on a train track in Patiala district, close to the Punjab-Haryana border, under the banners of the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha.

The railway officials, under the Ambala railway division, announced on Thursday that 23 trains had been redirected, 12 had been short-terminated, and 53 additional trains had been cancelled as they continued their protest.

Rail passengers were experiencing inconvenience due to the stoppage in rail movement.

Three more farmers, including Navdeep Singh, who were detained by the Haryana Police amid the current agitation, are being demanded to be released by the farmers.

They have declared that until their fellow protestors are freed, they would not put a stop to their demonstration. Sarwan Singh Pandher, the farmer leader, stated that the demonstration was still ongoing.

Senior divisional commercial manager Naveen Kumar of the Ambala Railway Division stated that the farmers’ protest at the Shambhu railway station has impeded the running of numerous trains.

Officials report that multiple trains were canceled, including the New Delhi-Amritsar, Rishikesh to Sri Ganganagar, and Ludhiana to Ambala Cantt routes.

Demanding the release of three farmers, protesting farmers sat on the Ambala-Ludhiana train section on Wednesday.

Farmers are leading the ‘Delhi Chalo’ march to force the government to accept their demands, which include that the Center provide a legal guarantee of Minimum Support Price (MSP) for crops. The SKM (Non-Political) and the KMM are leading the march.

After the security forces stopped the farmers’ march on February 13, they have remained at the border posts between Punjab and Haryana at Shambhu and Khanauri.
