Incident took place in Harda district
In Madhya Pradesh’s Harda district, a debt ridden farmer who was troubled by lenders committed suicide. According to the police, Lakshminarayan Karod, 44, had poison on Tuesday and passed away on Friday at a hospital. This incident brings attention to the grave problem of farmer indebtedness, said state’s agriculture minister, Kamal Patel.
Owed Debt Of Rs 40 Lakhs
Virendra Karod, the victim’s son, revealed to the media that his father was financially struggling under a debt of almost Rs 40 lakh. He even sold 10 acres of family land in an effort to repay the loan, but the pressure from the moneylenders was unrelenting. According to Virendra. They continued to demand repayments every day. The farmer committed suicide as a result of the rising financial pressure.

On Tuesday, Lakshminarayan was found unconscious in his hometown of Dagawa Shankar, which is around 180 kilometres from Bhopal. He was brought to the district hospital in Harda, which is 40 km distant, transferred to a private hospital, and then brought back, but he couldn’t be saved. On Friday at noon, he passed away. The amount of his debt he owed is being looked into by the police. The body has undergone an autopsy.
