A Monday accident at a firecracker factory in Tamil Nadu’s Ariyalur district resulted in nine deaths and several injured. According to police, the incident happened at Yaazh Fireworks in the district’s Thirumanur area.
According to early reports, untrained workers were mixing chemicals when the factory explosion happened. During the incident on Monday morning, up to 23 employees were inside, trapped inside the factory.
A Police officer said, “Just this morning three new women began working here. They are among those dead.”
Rajendran, the owner, and his son-in-law, who looked after the factory, were charged with the Explosive Substances Act and the applicable sections of the Indian Penal Code. The officer declared that “both have been arrested.”
Currently, only seven of the nine victims have been identified. The officer declared, “It is a licenced unit,” adding that the licence had been in effect since 2014 and had recently been extended through 2024.
It took several hours to stop the fire. A rescue personnel said, “It took more than two-and-a-half hours to put out the fire. It was a very bad accident.”
M. K. Stalin, the chief minister, promised to pay 3 lakh rupees to the families of each person who died, 1 lakh rupees to each person who suffered a serious injury, and 50,000 rupees to each person who suffered minor injuries.
