Israel announced on Monday that it would impose a “total blockade” on Gaza, prohibiting the entry of food and fuel. According to the Middle East Eye, Gaza already has a total electricity blackout as a result of Israel cutting off the region’s power after Hamas attacks on Israel on Saturday.
Israel has now imposed a “complete siege” on the Gaza Strip, stating that “no electricity, no food, and no fuel” will be delivered to the area.
Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant said, “I have ordered a complete siege on the Gaza Strip. There will be no electricity, no food, no fuel, everything is closed. We are fighting human animals and we act accordingly.”
Since Hamas overthrew rival Palestinian forces in 2007, Israel and Egypt have imposed varying degrees of blockade on Gaza.
Following a three-day conflict between Israel and Hamas terrorists that left over 1,100 people dead on both sides, including more than 700 Israeli citizens, including 44 soldiers, this blockade order was issued.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed to destroy the terrorist group’s safe havens as Israel declared war on the Palestinian terrorist organisation Hamas on Sunday. In the meantime, authorities in Gaza have reported at least 493 fatalities following Sunday’s relentless Israeli airstrikes.
More than 48 hours after Hamas launched an unexpected attack that resulted in the deaths of more than 700 people, Israel’s military declared on Monday that it had regained control of all communities surrounding Gaza, according to CNN.
“There is no fighting going on between Israel Defense Forces troops and Hamas inside Israel, and the IDF has re-taken control of all communities around the Gaza Strip,” CNN quoted IDF spokesman Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari as saying on Monday morning.
