Ex-cricketer S Sreesanth booked under cheating case

After taking up the case, the Kannur Judicial First Class Magistrate Court mandated an investigation into the claims.

Former Indian cricketer S Sreesanth is facing charges of cheating after it was alleged that he deceived someone by taking money from him under false pretenses of making him to a partner in a future sports academy.

In his complaint, Sareegh Balagopalan, a native of Kannur, claims that two Udupi natives, Rajiv Kumar and K Venkatesh Kinni, stole Rs 18.70 lakh from him with the promise that they would build a building in his name at a resort in Kollur, Karnataka.

Additionally, the complainant was assured of becoming a partner in the Sports Academy that Sreesanth and the Udupi natives would launch.

According to the petition, Sreesanth and two other people did not begin construction on the sports academy building or return the funds.

After taking up the case, the Kannur Judicial First Class Magistrate Court mandated an investigation into the claims.

The case has been filed under section 420 of the IPC for deceitfully obtaining property through coercion.
