During C-Section At Andhra Hospital, Forceps Were Left In Woman’s Stomach

The incident was discovered during a scan at Vijayawada Government Hospital…

At a government hospital in Eluru, Andhra Pradesh, doctors allegedly left forceps in a woman’s stomach after her cesarean delivery, a shocking case of medical malpractice. The incident was discovered during a scan at Vijayawada Government Hospital, where the woman was referred after complaining of severe pain, about three months after the surgeons removed the artery forceps.

By clamping the artery, artery forceps are used to control blood vessel hemorrhage. However, the surgeon failed to remove the same throughout the treatment. On April 19, G. Swapna gave birth to a kid at the Eluru Government Hospital via cesarean section.

She went back to her house in S. Kothapalli village in Pedapadu mandal of Eluru district after getting released from the hospital. But she began to feel sick to her stomach. She was taking various medications because she thought it was a frequent occurrence. The woman went to Eluru Hospital, where the physicians advised her to go to Vijayawada Hospital because there was no alleviation from her agony there.

At the Vijayawada Hospital, several tests were carried out, including an x-ray. To their complete horror, the x-ray revealed forceps in her stomach. However, the problem was discovered when a hospital worker shared an image of the x-ray on his social media pages. He was beaten by hospital staff who forced him to erase the same. However, after word got out, Eluru Hospital administrators started to investigate the situation, and the superintendent spoke with the involved medical staff.

The superintendent said that although a senior gynecologist had conducted the cesarean, artery forceps had unfortunately been forgotten. He said that the patient’s condition was critical when she arrived at the hospital on August 8. He said that the forceps had been taken out by the Vijayawada Hospital medical staff and that the woman’s health was stable. Prasanna Venkatesh, the district collector for Eluru, has meantime mandated an investigation into the event. A committee of health officials has been assembled by him to undertake an investigation and produce a report.
