Reacting to remarks made by AAP leaders that Arvind Kejriwal will remain chief minister even while arrested, Delhi Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena declared on Wednesday that the government will not be run from prison.
The leader of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Kejriwal, was detained on March 21 by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with a money laundering case related to the Delhi excise policy. The ED detained Kejriwal after the high court declined to grant him protection from coercive action by the agency.
Speaking at the Times Now Summit, Saxena said, “I can assure the people of Delhi that the government will not be run from jail.”
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s appeal against his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with a money-laundering case involving the purported excise policy scam is set to be heard by the Delhi High Court on Wednesday, March 27. Kejriwal’s plea, which asks for his immediate release due to the arrest and imprisonment being considered “illegal,” was scheduled for a 10:30 a.m. hearing before Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma.
