Congress promises to conduct census, increase funding for minorities if comes to power

If the Telangana Congress is elected in the assembly elections on November 30th, it has promised to conduct the caste census within six months of taking office and to increase funding for minority welfare by up to ₹ 4,000 crore annually.

Released on Thursday, the “Minority Declaration” promised to guarantee equitable reservations for minorities and other underprivileged groups in government programmes, employment, and educational opportunities.

Furthermore, the Congress pledged to provide subsidised loans worth ₹ 1,000 crore annually to unemployed women and youth from minority backgrounds.

The party said that after completing M.Phil and Ph.D. programmes, it would give financial assistance of ₹ five lakh to Muslim, Christian, Sikh, and other minority youth under the Abdul Kalam Taufa-e-Taleem Scheme.

A monthly honorarium of ₹ 10,000–Rs 12,000 was stipulated in the Declaration for priests of all religions, including Imams, Muezzins, Pastors, Granthis, and Khadims.

The party also pledged to create a “Telangana Sikh Minority Finance Corporation” in addition to holding special elections to fill positions for teachers teaching Urdu.

Minority communities without homes will receive sites and ₹ 5 lakh to build house.

The Declaration also stated that newlyweds from minority communities would receive ₹ 1.6 lakh.
