College Girl Raped, Murdered In Mumbai hostel Room; Murderer Found Dead On Railway Tracks

An 18-year old college girl was allegedly raped and killed in her hostel room in south Bombay, while a security guard who is a suspect in the case was discovered dead close to the hostel on railway tracks.

On Tuesday, at about 5 o’clock, the woman’s fourth-floor hostel room in the Charni Road neighbourhood was locked from the outside, making it impossible for anybody to find her.
A police team that entered the hostel room found her strangulated to death with a piece of cloth, an official said.

The victim was a student of a government polytechnic college in suburban Bandra, he said.

After arriving at the scene, a team of forensic and fingerprint experts and the police began an investigation into the incident.

The hostel’s security guard, who was a suspect in the crime, was discovered dead on the railway tracks near Charni Road station on Tuesday morning, according to the official.

According to the official, a FIR was filed against the security guard based on a complaint from the student’s cousin and circumstantial evidence under Indian Criminal Code Sections 302 (murder) and 376 (rape).

He stated the case was being investigated and that the post-mortem report was being awaited.
