Hot & windy conditions
According to the Regional Meteorological Centre’s most recent weather bulletin, Delhi is to experience partly overcast skies with hot conditions at isolated locations with high winds.
Maximum temperature
According to the Met Office, Narela and Pitampura observatories recorded 45 degrees Celsius, Ayanagar and Ridge observatories recorded 44 degrees Celsius, and Palam observatories recorded 43.8 degrees Celsius. The maximum temperature at Safdarjung Observatory was 42.9 degrees Celsius, three degrees more than usual.
There was less traffic on the roadways in the afternoon, and the normally packed boulevards appeared exposed, according to PTI.
Unbearable heat
I needed to go to the market, but the heat was awful, so I didn’t. “The temperature has risen so much that even the air conditioners are unable to provide relief,” said Varsha Pillai, a Lajpat Nagar resident.
According to officials, a new western disturbance could bring relief from the scorching weather starting May 24, with light rain and cloudy weather forecast for three to four days. On Sunday, relative humidity levels were between 25 per cent and 74 per cent, it added.
High surface winds
On Monday, the meteorological service predicts a partly overcast sky and isolated hot conditions. It also forecasts high surface winds of 25-35 km/h during the day. The highest and lowest temperatures are expected to be 43 and 26 degrees Celsius, respectively. On Saturday, the national capital’s minimum temperature was 23.2 degrees Celsius and the maximum temperature was 40.4 degrees.
