In the Kanker district of Chhattisgarh, a 34-year-old Border Security Force (BSF) jawan committed suicide by shooting himself with his service weapon, according to police on Sunday.
About 200 kilometres from Raipur, the state capital, the incident happened on Saturday at a BSF camp in Sarangipal village, which is under the jurisdiction of the Rowghat police station, an official said.
Using an INSAS rifle, Constable Balmiki Sinha of the 162nd battalion of the BSF shot himself inside the camp’s barracks. According to the official, when his colleagues arrived on the scene after hearing the gunshot, they discovered him lying in the pool of blood. The deceased was a native of Mandir Hasaud, in the Raipur district, specifically Riwa village.
Based on available information, it seems that he took the drastic step because of some family problems—his wife had just passed away. He said that he had returned to duty following a two-month leave. “The investigation is ongoing, and no suicide note was discovered at the scene,” the official continued.
