‘Assam CM Himanta Sarma Is Nation’s Most Corrupt Politician’: Rahul Gandhi

Rahul Gandhi, the head of the Congress, called Himanta Biswa Sarma as nation’s most corrupt chief minister on Wednesday. He made his remarks a day after he and other Congress officials were accused of fighting with the police in Guwahati, following which a case was lodged against him and other Congress leaders.

What did Rahul Gandhi say?

During the Bharat Jodo Yatra, “He is the most corrupt Chief Minister in the country. Whatever is told to you by the media is exactly what the Assam CM has conveyed to them.”

He further added, “The control of Assam’s Chief Minister is in the hands of Amit Shah. If he (Himanta Biswa Sarma) dares to say anything against Amit Shah, he will be thrown out of the party.”

On its eleventh day, ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’ resumed from Barpeta. On January 14, Gandhi had set out on the yatra from Thoubal, Manipur.

FIR filed against Rahul Gandhi

Following a conflict between Congress workers and police over the rejection of permission for the ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’ to enter Guwahati through its main routes, an FIR was filed against him and other Congress leaders on Tuesday.

On Tuesday, the Chief Minister of Assam said that Rahul Gandhi, KC Venugopal, and other Congress leaders and party members were named in a case. He stated that “wanton acts of violence, provocation, damage to public property, and assault on police personnel by Congress members” were the reasons the police had filed the FIR.
