The Andhra Pradesh State Directorate of Revenue Intelligence has filed a complaint against TDP MLA Yeluri Sambasiva Rao for allegedly buying votes in the 2019 Assembly elections.
Revenue intelligence agents conducted a search operation at the Nova Agri Tech Pvt. Limited headquarters on January 24, whose chairman is Yeluri Sambasiva Rao. A handwritten journal with entries about possible voter bribery during the 2019 Assembly elections was found by officials during the search.
The diary, which was found in front of witnesses, names Pullela Ajay Babu, an ex-employee who is on run since then.
Just prior to the 2019 general election, the diary’s entries describe the illegal distribution of bribes to voters, including the inflow and outflow of cash.
Dates, village names, booth-by-booth votes, transportation costs for absentee voters, and other details found in the diary seemed to indicate that illicit and black money was channeled through unidentified methods to bribe voters, purportedly in Yeluri Sambasiva Rao’s favor, according to officials.
The diary entries link Pullela Ajay Babu, an ex-employee, who left his home and turned off his phone when questioned.
The information was brought to the attention of the Income Tax authorities, Enforcement Directorate, and Securities and Exchanges Board of India by the Bapatla District Police after being submitted by the APSDRI.
The police in Andhra Pradesh are currently looking into the matter.
