With 115 seats won, the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) maintained the “revolving door trend” in Rajasthan, where an incumbent party has not been reelected in the previous 30 years. The BJP’s victory in the state assembly election was impressive.
Riding high on the BJP’s wave of success in the state, party MLA Balmukund Acharya—who had just won Jaipur’s Hawa Mahal seat—moved quickly to order the closure of every non-vegetarian food stall lining the local streets.
The BJP MLA is seen phoning an officer and requesting that he close all of the roadside non-vegetarian restaurants by the evening, according to a video that has gone viral on social media.
“Can non-veg be sold openly on the road? Answer yes or no. So, you support this. All roadside non-veg stalls should be shut down immediately. I will take the report from you in the evening. I don’t care who the officer is,” the BJP MLA told the officer.
Asaduddin Owaisi, the head of AIMIM, responded to the viral video by questioning how someone could say or do such a thing. “No one can stop it,” Owaisi declared, labeling the order as “incorrect.” How can anyone stop someone from setting up a non-vegetarian food stall?”
Balmukund Acharya, a BJP MLA, defeated Congressman RR Tiwari by 600 votes to win Rajasthan’s Hawa Mahal Assembly seat.
