Sharad Pawar, the president of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), declared today that his NCP faction rebel and nephew Ajit Pawar will never be appointed Maharashtra’s chief minister.
Speaking to reporters, he added that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which does not have power in 70% of the states, would also lose Maharashtra.
When questioned about rumours that Ajit Pawar, who joined the Shiv Sena-BJP government in July after leaving the NCP, would soon become the state’s chief executive, The statement made by Sharad Pawar senior was, “Ajit Pawar becoming Chief Minister will remain only a dream.”
After the 2024 elections, he expressed confidence that the Maha Vikas Aghadi of the Shiv Sena (UBT), NCP (Sharad Pawar group), and Congress will rule Maharashtra.
The veteran politician claimed that while the BJP is not in power in 70% of states, it gained power in some states by dismantling other political parties.
Pawar expressed optimism about Prakash Ambedkar joining the INDIA bloc of the Opposition. Ambedkar is the leader of the Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi.
He recalled that his former colleague Chhagan Bhujbal had once suggested that Supriya Sule be elected NCP president, but Bhujbal has himself switched to the party.
He added that it would be well received if BJP leader Pankaja Munde, who is rumoured to have been marginalised within the saffron party, founded her own organisation.
