Amidst the ongoing political unrest, nine former Himachal Pradesh MLAs six of whom were disqualified Congress members and three of whom were Independents who resigned joined the BJP on Saturday.
The former lawmakers attacked the Congress administration in state, led by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, claiming that since taking office, development efforts had stagnated.
The BJP would benefit from the former lawmakers’ participation, according to Anurag Thakur, who welcomed them into the party. In addition, he said that the state’s Congress administration had broken several promises, which greatly enraged the populace.
Anurag Thakur said six of the former lawmakers, despite being Congress MLAs, supported the BJP in the recent Rajya Sabha election as they chose to reflect the “public anger” against the Sukhu government.
Among the former Congress MLAs who joined the BJP are Sudhir Sharma, Ravi Thakur, Rajinder Rana, Inder Dutt Lakhanpal, Chetanya Sharma, and Devinder Kumar Bhutto. On February 29, they were all disqualified for defying a party whip to be present in the House and vote in favour of the state government during a cut motion and budget.
Ashish Sharma, Hoshiyar Singh, and KL Thakur, the three Independents who were elected on Friday, also become members of the BJP. They decided to take part in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s plan for the country’s development.
