The health ministry reported on Thursday that 702 COVID-19 cases increased in India in a single day, bringing the total number of active cases to 4,097.
The ministry’s data updated at 8 am shows that six new fatalities were reported in a span of 24 hours, two from Maharashtra and one from Karanataka, Kerala, West Bengal, and Delhi respectively.
As of December 22, 752 new cases had been reported nationwide. By December 5, the number of cases per day had dropped to double digits, but cold weather and the emergence of a new variant have caused the cases to rise once more.
The pandemic which started in early 2020 and has resulted in over 4.5 crore infections and over 5.3 lakh deaths in four years across the nation. According to the ministry’s website, over 4.4 crore people have recovered from the infection, i.e. the country’s recovery rate is 98.81 percent. As per the website, the nation has administered 220.67 crore doses of the Covid vaccine so far.
