Suspended MPs of Parliament to face consequences
According to a research by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), 222 bills were passed in the 17th Lok Sabha, 45 of which were passed the same day they were introduced in the House.
The Central Goods and Services Tax (Amendment) Bill, 2023, the Election Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2021, the Jammu and Kashmir Appropriation (No. 2) Bill, and the Appropriation (Vote on Account) Bill are a few of these bills.
ADR and National Election Watch (NEW) completed the analysis, which was published in a report on Tuesday. It provides insight into how the 17th Lok Sabha and its members performed.
The study states that during the 17th Lok Sabha’s tenure, 240 bills were introduced and 222 of them were passed.
Eleven bills were also withdrawn, while six are still pending. The President’s assent was given on just one bill.
Forty-five legislation were passed on the same day they were introduced in the House, based on the data.
An MP attended 189 of the 273 sittings and posed 165 questions on average.
At 216 of the 273 sittings, 11 state MPs from Chhattisgarh had the highest average attendance.
Arunachal Pradesh, on the other hand, had the lowest average attendance—two of its MPs showed up for just 127 sessions.
