India To Host 2029 World Police & Fire Games; Amit Shah Hails Global Recognition

In a significant achievement for Indian sports and national pride, Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced that India will host the prestigious 2029 World Police and Fire Games (WPFG).

Ahmedabad, Gujarat, will host the games, firmly establishing itself as a rapidly emerging global sports hub.

HM Shah shared the announcement via social media, stating, “It is a moment of great pride for every citizen, as Bharat has been designated as the host country for the prestigious 2029 World Police and Fire Games. Bharat winning the prestigious bid to host the event is a global recognition of our sprawling sports infrastructure built under the leadership of PM Shri @narendramodi Ji. Ahmedabad being selected as the venue of the event that brings together police, fire, and disaster services to compete in more than 50 sports is a testament to the city’s rising stature as a sporting destination.”

About the world police & fire games

The WPFG is a biennial international multi-sport event that welcomes serving and retired members of police, fire, emergency, and disaster services.

Since its inception in 1985, the event has grown to become one of the largest sporting competitions globally, featuring over 50 sports.

Hosted across various countries, including the USA, Canada, UK, and China, this will mark the first time India plays host.

India’s journey in the WPFG began in 2007 in Adelaide, Australia.

Over the years, Indian contingents have consistently delivered stellar performances, participating in eight editions and collecting more than 1,400 medals.

The 2023 Games in Winnipeg, Canada, saw India’s most successful campaign yet, with 133 athletes winning a record-breaking 343 medals — 224 gold, 82 silver, and 37 bronze.

Role of AIPSCB & National recognition

The All India Police Sports Control Board (AIPSCB), with its 53 member organisations from the CAPFs, state police forces, and security agencies, oversees police sports in India.

It conducts 40 police sports competitions annually, and gold medallists from these events represent the country in WPFG.

Ahmedabad’s selection as the host city highlights its world-class infrastructure and proven track record in hosting international events. The city provides modern stadiums, quality accommodation, and excellent connectivity to welcome athletes from across the globe.

India’s hosting of the 2029 WPFG not only underscores its growing global influence in the sporting world but also celebrates the valour and dedication of the nation’s uniformed services.

The event promises to boost India’s image internationally while honouring those who serve in times of peace and crisis.
