3 Other Arrested For Hanging And Brutally Trashing Daltis On Suspicion Of Theft In Maharashtra

The accused trashed the four victims including 2 minors on suspicion of stealing goats and a few pigeons on August 25.

On Monday, three more people were arrested in connection with the horrific case in Maharashtra’s Ahmednagar district, four schedule caste people were hung upside down from a tree and brutally beaten with sticks, police official said.

After the video of the incident circulated on social media police detained one person in connection with the case. On Monday, cops apprehended three more accused who were involved in the brutal crime. The main accused Yuvraj Galande (35) is arrested and a search for the other two accused is underway.

Dalit activist and president of Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi, Prakash Ambedkar shared the video on X, previously known as Twitter, and described it as “caste atrocity”.

“It is absolutely unquestionable that this incident is a caste atrocity and it was because of the caste system that the Dalit boys were treated so brutally,” he said in a tweet. “Would anybody else have been beaten similarly on suspicions of theft? No! He was thrashed, urinated upon, spitted on, forced to lick his own spit, stripped and hung upside down.”

Yuvraj Galande was nabbed by Ahmednagar police late Sunday night who absconded the village after committing the crime. After interrogation, he was detained. The workers who are still on run work at Galande firm, the officials said.

After being brutally hit one of the victims lodged a complaint, a case was registered under under sections 307 (attempt to murder), 364 (kidnapping) and other relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code and the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act as per sources.
