Seven people, including the sons of a Congress leader and a leader of the Jannayak Janata Party (JJP), were arrested by police in connection with the case after at least 19 people in Haryana died after consuming poisonous liquor. Villagers are calling for action against liquor dealers.
The villages of Mandebari, Panjeto Ka Majra, Phoosgarh, and Saran villages in Yamunanagar and the nearby Ambala district are where the deaths have taken place.
Regarding the deaths, opposition parties have attacked the Manohar Lal Khattar administration. The Haryana government was accused by the parties of not taking the lessons from past incidents that were similar to this one.
“My father died of alcohol poisoning last night. He was addicted to alcohol, but he usually only consumed a small amount. He had been drinking with friends who had also died from alcohol poisoning in the past,” said Ravinder, whose 70-year-old father is one of the victims.
In an effort to apprehend more suspects, police are conducting raids and have so far detained seven. Fearing for their lives, the villagers are hesitant to publicly criticise these alcohol vendors.
According to police, two migrant workers from Uttar Pradesh passed away in Ambala on Thursday after allegedly consuming poisonous alcohol that was produced illegally in the area.
200 crates of poisonous liquor that were produced in a closed factory and given to suspects in Yamunanagar were seized by Ambala police. Fourteen empty drums and the ingredients needed to produce alcohol were also taken by the police.
The accused’s manufacturing timeline and accomplices are being looked into by the police. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been established by the Yamunanagar Police to look into the matter.
