On Wednesday, November 15, a 16-year-old girl was sexually assaulted in a moving car in the Dindori district of Madhya Pradesh.
The incident happened in the city’s Bajag neighborhood. The young girl and her sister were on their way to a celebration planned to honor Birsa Munda’s birth anniversary, the police reported.
The four accused, who were from the girl’s village, stopped their car and offered to give them a ride while they were on their way. The accused took her to a forest area and sexually assaulted her as soon as they got into the car. To put an end to her sobs, they turned on loud music inside the car.
The girl told her family about the incident after it happened. The girl’s family claims that although they went to the local police station that same day to report the incident, their complaint was turned down.
Their case was later registered on November 18, after they went to the Dindori district headquarters and complained to the higher officials. Dindori’s Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP), Jagannath Markam, discussed the incident and stated that a case has been filed in accordance with the applicable provisions of the POCSO Act and the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
ASP Markam said, “A team under the leadership of a DSP rank officer has been launched to look into the case”. He further mentioned that one of the accused had been arrested by the police.
