Isabgol For Constipation: Know The Right Way To Take It

Isabgol, also known as psyllium husk, comes from the seeds of Plantago ovata. It contains a high amount of soluble fibre, which can support digestion and improve bowel movements.

Many people use isabgol to manage constipation, but consuming it correctly remains important.

Nutritionist and weight-loss coach Leema Mahajan recently shared a video explaining how, when and how much isabgol people should consume. She also highlighted its potential benefits for digestive health.

Isabgol is rich in plant-based fibre and can help improve the digestive process. Its husk contains more than 70% fibre, most of which is soluble fibre.

It also provides minerals such as calcium, iron and phosphorus. Regular use may help people manage constipation and support better bowel movements.

Some people also use it to ease bloating and gas, although individual responses can vary.

If you have recently started taking isabgol, pay attention to the quantity. Take around 3 to 5 grams of isabgol with approximately 250 ml of water.

You can consume it in the morning on an empty stomach or around 30 minutes before dinner. Mix the husk thoroughly with water and drink it immediately.

Do not leave the mixture sitting for too long because it can become thick.

After taking isabgol, drink another glass of water and maintain adequate water intake throughout the day. Staying hydrated helps the fibre work properly.

Leema Mahajan advises people not to rely on isabgol alone for constipation. Avoid taking it continuously for more than 10 to 15 days without medical guidance.

Instead, improve your diet, increase fibre-rich foods and maintain regular bowel movements. If constipation continues, consult a doctor to identify the underlying cause.
