Besides Randeep Hooda, Ankita Lokhande and Amit Sial also feature in the movie. It was released on March 22 in Hindi and Marathi.

On its first day of release, Randeep Hooda’s “Swatantrya Veer Savarkar” brought in Rs 1.15 crore. In order to give the title role in the biopic more believeable, Hooda has undergone a significant physical makeover. The movie and the Kunal Kemmu-directed “Madgaon Express” collided.

Film “Swatantrya Veer Savarkar” was directed by Randeep Hooda. With a total occupancy of 15.40 percent in the Hindi belt and 100 percent for Marathi shows on Friday, the movie made Rs 1.15 crore on its first day of release.

Hooda directed the movie himself, and when its trailer debuted, it became the buzz of the town. With an impressive voiceover that said, “Hum sabne padha hai ki Bharat ko aazadi ahinsa se mili hai lekin yeh voh kahaani nahi hai (We have all read that India attained freedom through non-violence, but this is not that story),” Hooda played Veer Savarkar as he entered the Kaala Paani prison. The journey, tribulations, and contribution to India’s independence made by freedom warrior Swatantrya Veer Savarkar are all depicted in the movie.

While talking about the film Hooda said, “I didn’t know so much about Vinayak Damodar Savarkar when I was approached for this. When I read up about him in great detail, I was astounded by his life and his influence on other freedom fighters of that time. Why do we, as a nation, don’t know much about him infuriated me so much that I took it upon myself to tell his story to world as it was. This film is a tribute to his undying spirit and unwavering commitment to the nation and about the contribution of armed revolution in India’s fight for Independence which he influenced so much. We will break many myths surrounding Veer Savarkar and honour his legacy with an honest, no-holds-barred portrayal.”

Besides Randeep Hooda, Ankita Lokhande and Amit Sial also feature in the movie. It was released on March 22 in Hindi and Marathi.
