Farmers in Vijayapura, Karnataka, brought a crocodile to the government office of Hubli Electricity Supply Company (HESCOM) to protest against frequent power supply cuts that interfere with their farming operations.
The farmers were irritated by this unprecedented risk of encountering wild animals and snakes when they returned to their farms at night as the power was cut during the day.
When the power was restored later that night, a farmer who had gone to water his farm last week noticed an alligator in the agricultural field.
The locals claimed that the crocodile had arrived from the Krishna River, which is close by, in quest of food.
The farmer then promptly contacted the other villagers, enlisting their assistance in tying the alligator. On October 19, the farmers brought it to the HESCOM office to “demonstrate” the threat they were facing.
The internet revealed a video of the farmers using ropes to hold the crocodile outside the HESCOM office.

The HESCOM officials were embarrassed by the “unusual guest” outside the office, so they called the police and forest officials to come get the alligator. The villagers were then given assurances by the representatives of the electrical supply company that there would be no outages during the day.
After being retrieved by forest officials, the crocodile was subsequently abandoned in the Almatti Damn, where the reptile lost its way into the field.
This year’s agricultural activities have been distorted by the lack of rainfall, according to officials from the irrigation department. They also stated that as a result, there is not enough water in the dams, which has made it challenging to release water for irrigation.
Farmers are reliant on borewells due to the lack of water, and the excessive energy use that results from this has finally led to a power shortage.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah of Karnataka recently stated that the state was experiencing a power shortage as a result of a sharp rise in demand and consumption.
