90 infrastructure projects worth Rs 2,900 crore that were across nine states and two union territories were inaugurated by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. The Nechiphu Tunnel in Arunachal Pradesh, two airfields in West Bengal, two helipads, 22 highways, and 63 bridges are among the projects undertaken by the Border highways Organisation (BRO).
According to the Ministry of Defence, there are all over 90 projects including 36 in Arunachal Pradesh, 26 in Ladakh, 11 in Jammu and Kashmir, 5 in Mizoram, 3 in Himachal Pradesh, 2 in Sikkim, Uttarakhand, and West Bengal, and 1 each in Nagaland, Rajasthan, and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
At a gathering in Jammu and Kashmir’s Samba area, Rajnath Singh inaugurated the projects.
According to the Ministry, BRO completed these “strategically important projects” in “record time,” with the majority of them being completed in a single working season utilizing cutting-edge technology.
‘The BRO is not only securing India’s borders but also playing a key role in the socio-economic development of the far-flung areas. The BRO has done excellent work in recent years and has emerged as a shining example of civil-military fusion,’ the Defence Minister said.

The Bishnah-Kaulpur-Phulpur Road’s 422.9-meter-long Devak Bridge in Jammu and Kashmir.
In Arunachal Pradesh, the 500-meter-long Nechiphu Tunnel on the Balipara-Charduar-Tawang Road.
The remodeled Bagdogra and Barrackpore Airfields in West Bengal, which the Defense Minister also dedicated to the country.
Additionally, Rajnath Singh virtually laid the foundation stone for Eastern Ladakh’s Nyoma Airfield. It will cost about Rs 200 crore to create it.
The minister also expressed his confidence that the BRO will soon establish another exceptional record with the building of the Shimku La Tunnel, which will link Lahaul-Spiti in Himachal with the Zaskar Valley in Ladakh.
