Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan expanded his cabinet as he inducted 3 new ministers on Saturday. As per experts, it is a move to maintain caste and regional balance.
Rajendra Shukla, state Backward Classes Commission chief Gaurishankar Bisen, and first-time MLA and former chief minister Uma Bharti’s nephew Rahul Lodhi are the 3 MLAs who have been sworn in as ministers.
Mr Lodhi took oath as minister of state while Rajendra Shukla and Gaurishankar Bisen were sworn in as Cabinet ministers. Now the total number of ministers in the cabinet has increased from 31 to 34.
A seven-time MLA from Balaghat in the Mahakoshal, Gaurishankar Bisen secured 24 seats in the region. He is also the chairman of the Madhya Pradesh Backward Classes Welfare Commission. Rajendra Shukla, a four-time MLA from Rewa in the Vindhya region. Rahul Lodhi, nephew of former CM Uma Bharti is a first-time MLA from Khargapur in Tikamgarh district of the Bundelkhand region.
Madhya Pradesh CM had a meeting with governor for two consecutive days before finally deciding to induct the 3 MLAs as ministers in cabinet. Congress Minister Kamal Nath took a dig at the BJP government by calling the entire cabinet corrupt. He posted on X(former known Twitter), “When the term is coming to an end and the government is about to fall, the cabinet is being expanded in Madhya Pradesh! The BJP government, which is used to singing a welcome song at the time of farewell, is now sure to lose even if it changes the entire cabinet. This is not a cabinet expansion, it is the expansion of the friendship of corruption.”
