Chinese President Xi Jinping and Indian PM Narendra Modi
At the Bali convention of G20 conference in November of last year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping not only exchanged courtesies but also discussed the importance of stabilizing Sino-Indian bilateral relations, the government said on Thursday.

The affirmation came after the Chinese readout of the Ajit Doval-Wang Yi meeting, which took place earlier this week in Johannesburg and claimed that PM Modi and Xi had agreed to a plan for repairing relations in Bali.
“…We have steadfastly maintained that the key to resolution of this whole issue is to resolve the situation along the LAC on the western sector of the India-China boundary and to restore peace and tranquility in the border areas,” said ministry of external affairs spokesperson Arindam Bagchi.

First encounter of Modi and Jinping since 2020 at Bali Convention
Since the military standoff in eastern Ladakh began in April or May of 2020, this was the first confirmation of talks between the leaders while they were welcoming one other in Bali.
“I think foreign secretary (after the Bali meeting ) did mention, maybe he did not mention the second part of it. He did talk about exchanging courtesies and I think there was the general discussion or spoke of the need to stabilise our bilateral relationship or relations and how we see that,” said the spokesperson.
According to diplomatic sources, Xi has been invited by India to the G20 conference in September and is likely to go. Even before that, they will probably meet in person during the August Brics conference. However, neither party has responded to inquiries regarding the likelihood of a bilateral meeting between the two. Even though they both attended the SCO summit in Samarkand last year, PM Modi and Xi did not have a bilateral meeting there.
