Karnataka's New Government: Congress Legislature Party Meeting On Thursday Night

As the formation of a new government in Karnataka remains uncertain, the state unit chief of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP), D K Shivakumar, has called a meeting here on Thursday evening.

In a letter to all legislators, the head of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) requested that they all attend the meeting of newly elected MLAs, MLCs, and MPs, which will begin at 7 p.m. at the Indira Gandhi Bhavan on Queen’s Road in this city.

While the Congress said that a decision is expected to be made within a day or two, intense talks were held on Wednesday to break the deadlock in selecting the chief minister of Karnataka for the party. Both candidates, Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar, presented their cases before the top brass.

A decision regarding the new cabinet will be made within the next 48 to 72 hours, according to Randeep Surjewala, general secretary of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) responsible for Karnataka.

The Congress won the 224-member Assembly with an overwhelming margin of 135 seats on May 10. The incumbent Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Janata Dal (Secular), led by former prime minister H D Deve Gowda, won 66 and 19 seats, respectively.
