PM Modi To Inaugurate Ladakh Development Projects Worth ₹3,350 Crore Today

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate five major development projects worth ₹3,350 crore in Ladakh on Thursday, covering connectivity, energy infrastructure, cultural heritage conservation and water security. He will address the gathering through video conferencing at around 12:30 PM.

The projects include a new passenger terminal at Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport in Leh, the Nimmu-Padum-Darcha Road, renewable energy infrastructure, India’s first Petroglyph Conservation Park and water bodies developed under Project Him Sarovar.

The new airport terminal, built at a cost of ₹640 crore, spans 23,800 square metres and can handle 35 lakh passengers annually.

The facility further incorporates geothermal energy to improve efficiency and reduce its carbon footprint. It also combines modern passenger amenities with elements of Ladakh’s cultural heritage, strengthening air connectivity with the rest of the country.

PM Modi will dedicate the 298-km Nimmu-Padum-Darcha Road, built by the Border Roads Organisation, to the nation. The road connects Nimmu in Leh with Darcha in Himachal Pradesh through the remote Zanskar Valley, providing an alternative route to Ladakh alongside the Srinagar-Leh and Manali-Leh highways.

The road crosses the high-altitude Shinkun La Pass, strengthening military logistics and improving residents’ access to healthcare, education and markets.

PM Modi will also inaugurate the 9 MW Hanu hydropower project and the 66 kV Dah-Hanu-Khaltsi transmission line to improve electricity supply and harness Ladakh’s hydropower potential.

PM Modi will inaugurate India’s first Petroglyph Conservation Park at Sindhu Ghat in Leh to preserve prehistoric rock carvings and promote heritage tourism.

Under Project Him Sarovar, he will also inaugurate 40 water bodies across 40 villages to improve irrigation, support agriculture and strengthen water security.

The projects aim to improve infrastructure and living conditions in Ladakh, a strategically important Himalayan region.
