Amit Shah Highlights Modi Government’s 78-Day Bonus For 11.40 Lakh Railway Employees Ahead Of Diwali

Union Home Minister Amit Shah highlighted the Modi government’s decision to approve a productivity-linked bonus equivalent to 78 days’ salary for 11.40 lakh railway employees ahead of Diwali.

The Union Cabinet has approved an allocation of ₹2,009 crore for the payment, providing financial support to eligible railway workers during the festive season.

The decision recognises the contribution of railway employees to the functioning of Indian Railways, which plays a vital role in passenger and freight transportation across the country.

The bonus acknowledges the efforts of the workforce in maintaining train operations and supporting the extensive railway network.

The approved payment will benefit approximately 11.40 lakh railway employees, with the bonus calculated at the equivalent of 78 days’ salary, subject to applicable eligibility and calculation rules.

The announcement comes ahead of Diwali, when households typically face additional expenses related to celebrations, travel and other festive needs.

The payment is expected to provide additional financial support to eligible employees and their families.

Indian Railways relies on employees across operational, technical and administrative roles to maintain services and ensure the smooth movement of passengers and goods.

Their responsibilities include train operations, infrastructure maintenance, passenger assistance and other essential activities.

The Cabinet’s approval reflects the government’s focus on employee welfare and its recognition of the workforce’s contribution to the national transporter.

The ₹2,009-crore allocation will fund the productivity-linked bonus for eligible railway staff.

The decision also underscores the importance of the railway workforce in supporting the country’s transportation infrastructure and economic activity.

By approving the festive-season bonus, the government aims to recognise employees’ efforts while extending financial assistance to railway households ahead of Diwali.
