French biochemist and New York Times bestselling author Jessie Inchauspé has emphasised that regular exercise, rather than fasting, is the most effective strategy for living longer.
In an Instagram post on October 13, she clarified common misconceptions about fasting and caloric restriction.

Inchauspé highlighted that 25-year studies on monkeys show fasting only extends lifespan for those consuming an unhealthy diet. Monkeys on a healthy diet showed no significant lifespan benefit from fasting.
“For a long time, people believed that fasting or caloric restriction would extend their lifespan. Now, thanks to studies done on monkeys, we know that’s not really the case,” she wrote, cautioning that fasting is not a ‘magic bullet’ for longevity.
Exercise Proven to Add Years
Instead, Inchauspé stressed that regular exercise can add 7–10 years to a person’s life. She recommends exercising at least three times a week as the most reliable approach to boosting lifespan and overall health.
“Fasting is not nearly as powerful as exercise,” she noted, urging people to focus on consistent physical activity rather than extreme wellness trends or diet fads.
With wellness trends and health hacks proliferating online, Inchauspé’s guidance underscores the importance of evidence-based practices. Experts agree that while diet and lifestyle influence longevity, exercise remains the most consistent contributor to a longer, healthier life.
