Zoravar Singh Sandhu Clinches Bronze As ISSF Shotgun World Championship Concludes In Athens

Veteran trap shooter Zoravar Singh Sandhu stole the spotlight on the penultimate day of the ISSF World Championship Shotgun 2025 at the Malakasa Shooting Range, Athens, Greece, by clinching a brilliant bronze medal.

At 48, Zoravar combined poise and experience under challenging weather conditions to score 31 in the Men’s Trap final, having qualified with an impressive 122 out of 125. This medal also earns him a place in the ISSF World Cup Final scheduled in Doha this December.

On the final day, India’s pairs struggled in the Trap Mixed Team event. Asian champion Neeru Dhanda and silver medallist Bhowneesh Mendiratta shot 137 out of 150, finishing 25th, while Zoravar partnered with Aashima Ahlawat to the same score, ending 28th.

In the Women’s Trap, Aashima Ahlawat and Neeru Dhanda both scored 109, finishing 40th and 43rd, respectively. Kirti Gupta scored 101, placing 62nd.

The Indian men’s skeet team faced a challenging field. Bhavtegh Singh Gill, close to a final berth, shot 22 in the final round to drop to 35th, Mairaj Ahmad Khan ended 53rd with 117, and Asian Champion Anantjeet Singh Naruka finished 83rd with 115.

In Women’s Skeet, Raiza Dhillon scored 116 to finish 16th, narrowly missing the final by three points. Ganemat Sekhon and Parinaaz Dhaliwal both shot 110, finishing 47th and 44th, respectively.

A total of 15 nations reached the medal tally, with India sharing ninth place alongside seven other countries. Zoravar’s bronze remains the highlight of India’s campaign, demonstrating resilience and skill at the global level.

This performance not only marks a career milestone for Zoravar Singh Sandhu but also underscores India’s growing presence in international shooting sports, setting the stage for strong showings in upcoming competitions.
