In a heartfelt appeal, BJP Rajya Sabha MP Brij Lal has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to establish a ‘Sindoor Memorial’ in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, to honour the victims of the deadly terrorist attack that occurred on 22 April this year.
The demand is aimed at commemorating the sacrifice of 26 civilians and celebrating the valiant response through Operation Sindoor.
In a letter addressed to the Prime Minister on 5 June, Brij Lal emphasised the cultural and emotional significance behind the name ‘Sindoor’.

While speaking to IANS, he explained that ‘Sindoor’ – a sacred red vermilion worn by married Hindu women – symbolises life, sacrifice, and devotion.
He added that he chose the name with deliberate intent to reflect the spirit of India’s counterterrorism resolve under PM Modi’s leadership.
Brij Lal remarked that in response to the Pahalgam attack, the nation did not bleed – it rose with Sindoor in its spirit.
He described how the counter-operation dismantled nine terror camps and eliminated over a hundred terrorists, striking a severe blow to cross-border terrorism.
Call For National Memorial
The BJP leader’s letter proposes a memorial at the attack site in Pahalgam to honour the victims and especially Syed Adil Hussain Shah, who died while bravely attempting to disarm a terrorist to protect others.
Brij Lal stated that the monument would not only remember the fallen but also serve as a symbol of unity, resistance to terrorism, and national pride.
According to Brij Lal, the Pahalgam attack triggered unprecedented protests across Jammu & Kashmir, with citizens rallying against terrorism.
He noted that this was the first such widespread response in the region since the abrogation of Article 370, showing the public’s firm stand against extremism.
BJP MP Brij Lal also referenced a viral video showing Jaish-e-Mohammed chief Masood Azhar grieving beside a grave, asserting that India’s decisive retaliation had clearly shaken the global terror mastermind.
Brij Lal concluded that the proposed Sindoor Memorial would serve as an enduring tribute to the courage of those who lost their lives and the success of Operation Sindoor.
“It will remind generations of the price paid for peace and the strength of a nation that does not cower before terror,” he wrote.
The proposal has gained wide recognition as a move to honour not only individual heroism but also the nation’s collective resilience.
