The primary list of candidates for the next Lok Sabha elections was finalized by the Congress Central Election Committee (CEC) during a meeting on Thursday. The mystery regarding the seats that the Gandhis would represent, however, persisted as the list was not made public that day.
Sources claim that the first list will be made public on Friday.
Former chief Sonia Gandhi and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge attended the meeting at the party’s Delhi headquarters. Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the Congress party and the leader of the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in Jaipur, was originally scheduled to participate virtually in the meeting but ultimately chose not to attend.
The party’s Kerala screening committee has recommended Rahul Gandhi for the Wayanad seat. Rahul Gandhi, the current Wayanad MP, is expected to run for the seat again, according to reports.
It’s unclear as of yet, though, if Rahul Gandhi will run from Wayanad in addition to returning to his native Amethi.
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, the general secretary of the Congress, is yet to announce her candidacy. This occurs at the same time as Priyanka Gandhi is being strongly supported by Congress workers to run from Raebareli, following her mother Sonia Gandhi’s resignation to contest the Rajya Sabha elections.
Shashi Tharoor, the Thiruvananthapuram Congress MP, is probably going to run for the seat again.
Former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel from Rajnandgaon, Tamradhwaj Sahu from Durg, Jyotsna Mahant from Korba, and Shiv Dehariya from Janjgir-Champa are the candidates the Congress is most likely to field from Chhattisgarh.
The top brass in Karnataka, a state governed by the Congress party, has not yet chosen candidates for seats four to five.
Despite claims that Mallikarjun Kharge’s son-in-law Radhakrishna Doddamani was one of the front-runners for the ticket, insiders claim that the Congress stronghold of Gulbarga was not discussed during the meeting.
The Delhi Congress chapter has submitted a lengthy list of candidates to be evaluated for each of the seven Lok Sabha seats.
The Delhi unit was instructed by the high command to nominate a few individuals and return for the final approval.
JP Agrawal, Sandeep Dikshit, and Alka Lamba were reportedly considered for the Chandni Chowk seat, according to reports.
The names of Arvinder Singh Lovely and Anil Chowdhary have surfaced from Northeast Delhi.
Rajkumar Chauhan and Udit Raj, both from Northwest Delhi, are being considered.
