In connection with the July 15 mob killing of a woman in Keibi, Manipur, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) filed a chargesheet against nine individuals before the Special Judge in the CBI Court in Guwahati.
On July 15, a hundred or so people are said to have detained a woman at Sawombung Gate in Manipur, kidnapped her, and drove her to Keibi village.
“It was alleged that at about 12.10 pm on July 15, 2023, one female was forcibly detained at Sawombung Gate by a mob numbering about 100 persons, including armed miscreants, and was forcibly abducted towards Keibi village in a car. Subsequently, the dead body of the female was recovered on the same day,” the spokesperson of the CBI said.
The woman, who was shot in the face and appeared to be in her mid-50s, was discovered dead at her home that same day. Her face was mutilated by her attackers before they ran away.
Officials stated that the victim was a member of the Maring Naga community and that it was thought that she was experiencing mental health problems. In relation to the case, nine people were taken into custody.
After receiving a request from the Manipur government and a notification from the Government of India, a case was filed at the Lamlai Police Station in Imphal East. Subsequently, the CBI assumed responsibility for the investigation.
