Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev in Tianjin on Sunday during the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit, noting that India and Kazakhstan were expanding cooperation across a wide range of sectors.
Taking to X, PM Modi posted, “Productive exchange of views with President Tokayev of Kazakhstan. Our nations are working closely in many key sectors, including energy, security, healthcare and pharma.”

The Prime Minister also met Tajikistan’s President Emomali Rahmon.
Calling the meeting a pleasure, PM Modi wrote that India’s growing trade and cultural connections with Tajikistan were a ‘wonderful sign’.

In a separate engagement, PM Modi spoke with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko. The two leaders, he said, were confident about the opportunities that lie ahead for India–Belarus relations.

Earlier, PM Modi had interacted with Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu, stressing that New Delhi’s development partnership with the island nation is directly benefiting citizens of both countries.

He also held talks with Nepal’s Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, describing India–Nepal relations as ‘deep-rooted and very special’.

On Sunday, Chinese President Xi Jinping and his wife, Peng Liyuan, officially welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Tianjin. The welcome took place as he arrived for the leaders’ reception at the SCO Summit venue.
The SCO, created in June 2001 in Shanghai, is a permanent intergovernmental body. Its members include China, Russia, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Pakistan, Uzbekistan, Iran and Belarus. Afghanistan and Mongolia are observer states, while 14 other nations, such as Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Nepal and the UAE, are dialogue partners.
