India has safely evacuated a total of 827 citizens from Iran under the ongoing Operation Sindhu, launched in response to the escalating tensions between Iran and Israel.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed that the latest evacuation flight from Mashhad landed in Delhi at 4:30 PM on Saturday, carrying 310 Indian nationals.
The evacuees, many of whom waved Indian flags and chanted “Bharat Mata Ki Jai,” expressed relief and gratitude upon arrival. Emotions ran high at the Delhi airport as families reunited and travellers shared their experiences.
Evacuees express gratitude to Indian government
Several returnees praised the Indian government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for ensuring their safe return.
“I was afraid, but our location was technically safe. The Indian embassy took the initiative to evacuate us, and we made it back safely. Hats off to the government,” one evacuee told IANS.
Another returnee, Qamar Jahan, said, “The government of India did a lot for us. We received good food and care throughout the journey. PM Modi did a lot for us—we will pray for him.”
Government reaffirms commitment to citizens’ safety
Arun Kumar Chatterjee, Secretary (CPV & OIA) in the Ministry of External Affairs, earlier told IANS, “The third flight under Operation Sindhu arrived today with nearly 290 Indians, including 190 from Jammu and Kashmir. Their smiles are the biggest prize for us.”
Chatterjee also thanked Iran for opening its airspace and acknowledged the support of Armenia and Turkmenistan, which helped ensure a safe passage for Indian nationals.
India plans to evacuate from Israel
As the Iran-Israel conflict intensifies, India has also begun discussions with Israeli authorities to ensure the safety of Indians in Israel.
“Very soon, flights will be arranged to bring our people back from Israel too,” Chatterjee confirmed.
He reiterated that the safety and welfare of Indian nationals abroad remains the government’s top priority, and efforts are ongoing to bring back more Indians stranded in conflict-affected regions.
